Sanbona Wildlife Reserve offers 54 000 hectares of undulating mountains and plains in the heart of the Little Karoo surrounded by indigenous wild flowers and San rock art. With the exciting arrival of elephant, buffalo, black rhino, cheetah and male and female white lion, Sanbona is now home to the Big 5. Specialist guiding is a key element in providing a memorable and varied experience with bush walks, bird-watching for some 160 species and archaeological presentations as well as 4x4 game drives. Sunrise and sunset trails lead to secluded rock pools and spectacular examples of San art – hidden away between breathtaking rock formations.
Luxurious accommodation is either in historic Tilney Manor (six suites) or Khanni Lodge (four suites). Tilney Manor, once a thriving fruit farm dating back to 1898, has six luxuriously appointed suites. Comfortable lounges with fireplaces for winter nights, private verandas, romantic freestanding baths and carefully sheltered outdoor showers are just a few of the pleasures you can enjoy. Modern comforts include air-conditioning, satellite television, private bar and tea and coffee making facilities. The fully equipped Wellness Centre and Spa offers the opportunity to restore your sense of inner harmony.
Alternatively, the contemporary, light and airy Khanni Lodge is ideal for a party of friends or family. Tucked away in a secluded valley overlooking a natural watering hole, Khanni Lodge is an idyllic summer house, with wrap-around verandas, high lime-washed ceilings and exposed beams providing a feeling of cool, airy space. From the veranda and rimflow swimming pool guests can watch animals visiting the waterhole to drink, and the private verandas of the four spacious suites offer exquisite views of the surrounding landscape. |
