Matetsi Water Lodge | Zimbabwe

[Zimbabwe Hotels and Accommodation]
Matetsi Water Lodge lies in a 50,000ha game reserve, 40 minutes drive (40km) upstream from Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side of the Zambezi river. It has a spectacular setting on the lush banks of the Zambezi surrounded by lush riverine trees, and Matetsi Game Reserve is home to large herds of elephant, buffalo and a wide variety of game. Guests can enjoy both the adventure and the tranquillity of life beside the mighty Zambezi, combining excellent land and water-based game-viewing with day excursions to the Victoria Falls.

Matetsi has three intimate camps each with six air-conditioned suites and its own elegantly appointed open-sided dining and sitting areas with beautiful open river views. Delicious Pan-African cuisine is served on the intimate riverside deck. The suites each have a spacious bathroom, with bath and shower, safe, mosquito net, minibar, outdoor shower, telephone and a private plunge pool on their river deck.

Guests enjoy morning and evening game drives. Indeed Matetsi Game Reserve is one of the few areas where night drives are permitted. Guided walks with a highly trained ranger or expert tracker are also on offers as well as leisurely morning or afternoon riverboat cruises on the Zambezi to spot the rich birdlife, hippos and elephants. Relaxing fishing and guided canoeing are also on offer. There is something magical about gliding past elephants drinking from the riverbanks.

Coleen and Lize stayed at Matetsi in April:
"I loved Matetsi when I stayed last time and I loved it again ! Truly a special place. Real value for money and strongly to be recommended as an alternative to the Chobe area."
