AmaKhosi Lodge is set in AmaZulu Private Game Reserve in Maputaland. The AmaZulu game reserve now joins Phinda in offering the Big Five - elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo. It covers mountain grasslands, wetlands and valley bushveld and has spectacular birding, with over 400 recorded species. The spacious main lodge offers two sitting areas, a bar, indoor dining area, covered terrace for evening dining and an expansive deck for breakfast and lunch with open views of the Mkuze River below. The six individual and air-conditioned chalets offer great seclusion and comfort with bedroom, separate sitting room, bathroom, separate shower room and loo as well as a large timber deck. Amakhozi offers Big 5 game viewing amongst other wildlife, bush walks with experienced game rangers. Children are welcome at Amakhosi. The spacious suites are well-designed for children with a bedroom, separate lounge with a sleeper couch, separate toilet, shower room and main bathroom with a bath and another toilet. As all suites have king-size beds, young kids mostly just sleep with their parents. Camping cot can also be supplied. Amakhosi don't recommend the adult drive for children under 7 years. They offer baby sitting facilities and a 'kiddies drive' outside of scheduled gamedrive times, which is shorter, and specifically designed for little ones to enjoy and stay entertained. They are also building a separate children's swimming pool (second pool) which should be completed by mid 2006. |

Feedback from the K family, Great Britain 2004:
"Amakhosi was unashamed luxury. The personal service and attention to detail was amazing. A highlight was having the children escorted to their room by a man with a gun! Our guide, Greg, couldn't have been more helpful. Everywhere we stayed, and particularly at Amakhosi, the children were treated with the same level of service as the adults. This makes such a difference to everybody's enjoyment, and is something we don't expect in England! At the end of our stay, we were sent on our way with snacks for everybody for the journey, and very detailed directions for our route. The game drives at Amakhosi and Hluhluwe were quite different, but all excellent. At Hluhluwe we saw more animals, but at Amakhosi, with a personal guide, we were able to see and learn about the animals in more detail, looking at the tracks, and learning about dung in some detail!" |
