Botswana is one of Africa’s last pristine lands and offers its visitors beautiful scenery and prolific big game in equal measure. Most people know of the Okavango Delta, yet Botswana conjures up so many memorable images for those lucky enough to visit – the shimmering heat rising from the vast white salt pans of the Makgadikgadi pans; the flight of a fish eagle as it glides over the waterways of the delta; the majestic baobab trees rising out of the Kalahari grasslands; or the elephant family coming down to the Chobe River to drink as dusk falls.
It would be easy to spend your entire safari in Botswana, as many of our clients do. Others add a Botswana safari onto a South African or Namibian holiday. Botswana is never a cheap destination, but then it’s never disappointing either; and a safari here is fully inclusive of meals, activities, laundry and virtually all drinks, so there are no hidden extras.

The two main ways of getting around Botswana are taking a private tour by light safari aircraft or on a mobile safari. The wet season in Botswana is from December to March when the animals spread out over the plains. It’s followed by the dry winter with warm sunny days. As winter progresses, the animals migrate north to the Chobe and Linyanti Rivers and west into the Okavango Delta as it begins to flood.
Botswana fly-in safaris give you great flexibility – we discuss with you the differences between the safari camps, and together we choose which will suit you. Most people fly into Maun and then take a light aircraft to one of the camps. You can also fly into Victoria Falls and take the 1½ hour drive to Kasane on the Chobe River. From here, you can stay at one of the Chobe riverfront game lodges or fly to the Linyanti Swamps, Savute or the Okavango Delta.
Botswana Mobile safaris are a particularly evocative way of enjoying the Okavango delta and the Kalahari desert of Botswana. You can join a scheduled departure of 6 to 12 people. These vary in style from moderate participation to fully catered with a corresponding variation in price. Alternatively, you can choose a private tour or mobile safari – which offers greater flexibility on routing and departure date – and is ideal for a family party or a group of friends.
