A safari is generally the impetus and a crucial part of any holiday in South Africa: words cannot describe the thrill of tracking a leopard on the hunt, or observing a breeding herd of elephants at a waterhole.
The Greater Kruger Park, which includes the Kruger National Park and the surrounding private game reserves of the Sabi Sands, Timbavati and Manyeleti, is the first choice for many of our guests, given the unsurpassed concentration and diversity of wildlife on offer.
The Kruger National Park is one of the finest wildlife reserves in Africa, a vast wilderness of prolific game and sub-tropical heat. It is home not only to the Big Seven - elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, cheetah and wild dog, but also to an abundance of smaller, equally fascinating animals and birdlife. A number of private concessions now operate within the park itself such as Singita Lebombo, Rhino Post Lodge, Tinga and Lukimbi.
After your safari you may like to relax on the Drakensberg escarpment. This area of tumbling streams and waterfalls amongst indigenous woodland and forest plantations is only two hours drive from the private game lodges with many convivial country house lodges.

| How to plan your safari in the Greater Kruger Park |
|
First decide whether you want to stay at just one lodge or split your time staying at two different game lodges.
Next you need to decide which area suits you better. Broadly speaking you can choose between a private concession in the Kruger National Park itself or one of the private game reserves. The Sabi Sands, Manyeleti and Timbavati all have open borders with the Kruger so animals migrate freely. Other excellent private game reserves include Thornybush and Balule. See the links below for further information on each private game reserve.
For more adventurous travellers, it is now possible to travel through the Kruger and into Mozambique as South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe have come together to form the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park. This exciting development will enhance breeding patterns as it restores the wildlife’s natural pre-colonial migratory routes. See our web pages on Southern Mozambique for more on this.
