Luxury Trains Holidays and Safaris in Africa Home / Luxury Trains holiday
In Southern Africa, a luxury train journey on Rovos Rail or the Blue Train must be one of the most pleasurable, relaxing and evocative ways of crossing the vast landscape. Combine the elegance of the glory days of luxury train travel with modern comforts, superb cuisine and the best of South Africa's wines...

Rovos Rail luxury train - There is nothing which quite matches the magic of a hiss of steam as a vintage engine pulls into a station,...There can be no more opulent and exclusive way to experience the delights of steam than on the 'Pride of Africa' steam train. Suites and public carriages are beautifully appointed in period style, but the most impressive part of the train is the observation car, from which to view the ever-changing scenery. Deluxe air-conditioned suites have a lounge area and en suite shower room. The larger Royal suites have en suite bathrooms with Victorian bath. Pullman suites offer an affordable way to enjoy this dream.

The Blue Train luxury train - has been in operation in various guises since 1939. The famous 27 hour overnight train service between Cape Town and Pretoria provides a delightful interlude in a sightseeing and safari schedule. This luxury train is air-conditioned throughout and is particularly known for its superb cuisine, attentive service and immaculate mahogany and Italian marble fittings. Each of the sleeper compartments has television, telephone and a choice of twin or double beds. Deluxe suites have a shower or bath en suite.

The Desert Express luxury train - is a luxurious modern train with a glass-panelled roof in the lounge compartment for stargazing. This is a wonderful way to traverse the wide open spaces of Namibia; the train travels through the desert from Windhoek to Swakopmund and vice versa, with a variety of excursions from the train. Accommodation is in two or three person air-conditioned en suite compartments.

The Union Limited steam train tours - are ideal for rail enthusiasts with a comfortable, but authentic 1950s vintage steam train experience - so no air conditioning! Journeys begin in Cape Town and range from five to fifteen days in length, with the six day tour of the Winelands and Garden Route being the most frequent route. Accommodation is in first class compartments, each with a washbasin and every coach has a shower.
