Flora and Garden Holidays and Safaris in Africa Home / Flora and Garden holiday
The spring wild flowers of the West Coast, Cedarberg and Namaqualand in South Africa have a worldwide reputation. The area receives little rain throughout the year but after winter rains, the normally dry landscape is swathed with vibrant bands of wild spring flowers, with nemesias, lachenalias, babiana and ixias seen in great profusion. The wide variety of wild flowers in this area is largely due to the varied topography - fertile valleys, high mountains, semi-desert plains and the unique sandveld region near the coast. Mid August to mid September is the prime time to visit. You can choose between taking our scheduled five day Spring Flower tour, a shorter private tour, day tours from Cape Town (to the West Coast only) or a self-drive holiday in the region.

Later in the spring, (late September to November), the fynbos comes into its full glory, and we offer our popular Gardeners' Tour from Cape Town. The Western Cape offers the richest floral diversity in the world, indeed Table Mountain alone has more plant species than the whole of Great Britain. It is a surprise to many visitors that many of the world's best-loved garden plants, such as pelargoniums, gladiolus, agapanthus and osteopermum originated here. Take our two week escorted tour, or let us design an independent self-drive holiday to the best fynbos regions.
